Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

What is PCOS?

 

A metabolic disorder affecting approximately 12-18% of women, characterised by hormonal imbalances which cause the symptoms associated with PCOS.

 

What are the Symptoms?

 

These are different for everyone, however the most common symptoms include:

 

  • Acne

  • Cravings for sweet/sugary foods

  • Emotional/binge eating

  • Difficulty dealing with stress

  • Difficulty falling pregnant or multiple miscarriages

  • Difficulty losing weight and finding it easy to put on weight

  • Fatigue / feeling tired and lethargic

  • Hair loss

  • High blood pressure or cholesterol

  • Increase in body hair, particularly around the face

  • Infertility

  • Insulin resistance

  • Irregular/absent periods

  • Mood swings / depression
